Green Beans with Tomatoes and Sliced Almonds
In a large pot with steamer insert, steam green beans for 5 minutes. Green beans should be slightly under-cooked, and crisp to the bite. Remove from heat and set aside. While green beans are steaming, in a large sauté pan, heat oil over medium heat. Add onions, shallots, and garlic to the sauté pan, and cook over medium-low heat for 5 minutes; stirring occasionally. Stir in the Carmelina ‘e…San Marzano® Italian Chopped Tomatoes in Puree and season to taste with salt and pepper. Continue to cook the tomato mixture over medium-low heat for an additional 5 minutes. Add the green beans and basil to the tomato mixture, and continue to cook for an additional 5 minutes. Beans should still have a slight crunch. To serve, remove from heat and place Green Beans with Tomatoes in a serving bowl. Garnish with Parmesan cheese and sliced almonds. Mangia Bene!
Tip: For some holiday indulgence, garnish dish with crispy pancetta or bacon as an addition to, or in place of the sliced almonds.
